Criteria
Events may include, but are not limited to, GLBT student groups’ operating expenditures, lectures, publications, diverse community building workshops, as well as other educational, cultural, or social events. Any University of Connecticut registered student group, UConn faculty member, or UConn staff person whose focus is to promote the concerns of GLBT persons or whose programming will advance the concerns of GLBT persons shall be eligible for consideration of funding.
Funding Available: Funds for the David Daniel Berdon Memorial Fund will normally be limited to a maximum of $500. Under exceptional circumstances, the committee may approve a higher amount depending upon the significance of the speaker or event. The Committee will consider applications that are submitted, however funding is not guaranteed until the applicant has received supporting documentation from the Committee. Due to investment market viability, a depletion of available funds due to commitments to fund other applications, or other reasons, the Committee reserves the right to not approve funding or grant funding at a reduced amount than that requested.
Types of Events Eligible for Support: Funding is available to pay for educational, cultural, or social events: Lectures, speaker’s honorarium, group performances, round table discussions, programs, GLBT student group operating expenditures, publications, or diverse community building workshops, to name a few, that are held at any campus of the University of Connecticut and/or from applications submitted by appropriately affiliated applicants (see Who May Apply below).
Application Procedure: Applications are reviewed on a first come/first served basis. The Committee requires that funding applications be submitted a minimum of 30 days prior to the date of the event in order for the Committee to consider the submission. Applications that are one to twenty-nine days in advance of the event’s date MAY be considered, but the Commitee’s consideration is not guaranteed. All correspondence between applicants and any committee member will be through email or written means.
Who May Apply: Applications will be accepted from representatives of registered student groups, cultural centers, institutes, or university departments at any campus of the University of Connecticut, as well as individual University of Connecticut faculty/staff members at any of the University of Connecticut campuses.
